How do you get to Zanzibar?
There are no direct flights from the UK to Zanzibar/Tanzania.
Qatar Airways fly every day of the week from the UK to Zanzibar. The flights are via Doha and are overnight in both directions. Most days of the week there are good connection times in Doha.
Kenya Airways has flights every day of the week from Heathrow, overnight on the way out to Nairobi (8.5 hours) then connecting early morning on to Zanzibar or Dar es Salaam. (1.5 hours). Return flight are not so straightforward. Either a very early – 02.30 – departure from Zanzibar to Nairobi, quite a long transit then day time flight to Heathrow. Alternatively an evening departure from Zanzibar to Nairobi then on to Amsterdam connecting to Heathrow.
Ethiopian Airlines have flights each day of the week and have the shortest travel times of all airlines. Overnight to Addis Ababa connecting on to Zanzibar arriving late morning. Return is late afternoon to Addis Ababa with quite a long transit – time to have an evening meal – connecting overnight to Heathrow. We are increasingly using Ethiopian Airlines.
Oman Air has flights to Zanzibar, via Muscat, several times per week. On some days it is a very early flight out of Zanzibar – 06.00 – to Muscat getting in to Heathrow the same evening. On some days it is an afternoon flight to Muscat connecting overnight to Heathrow.
Emirates fly each day of the week to Dar es Salaam, overnight and via Dubai in both directions. We book the 20 minute connecting flights DAR – ZNZ – DAR.
