On the 25 May 2018 Europe’s new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into force, replacing the 1995 EU Data Protection Directive.
The new Regulations are aimed at any organisation in Europe which holds personal data about individuals. There is an obligation to advise people what data is held about them, why it is held and what it is used for. If data is to be used by the organisation for marketing/promotional purposes, and/or shares personal data with another party which may be used for marketing/promotional purposes, the new Regulations require such organisations to obtain clear consent from individuals for their personal information to be used in this way.
Under no circumstances will Zanzibar Travel use personal data obtained in the process of booking holidays for marketing/promotional purposes, and under no circumstances will personal data be provided to another organisation for promotional/marketing purposes.
As a tour operator we are obliged to collect some personal information about people in order to book their holidays.
How do we obtain data?
Personal data is obtained by telephone, by email and sometimes in letter format.
What data do we collect
We only collect information which is essential to make bookings for holidays.
- Names of people travelling.
- Telephone numbers.
- Email address.
- In rare circumstances passport information.
- For children under the age of 16 years we may obtain birth dates where reduced rates/fees may apply to young people.
- Dietary requirements.
- In some instances, Nationality.
- Insurance policy.
- Debit/credit details which are immediately destroyed once payment has been processed.
With whom do we share personal information?
We only provide personal information to 3rd parties (hotels, safari agent, flight agent, our agent and excursion providers on Zanzibar) required to process holiday bookings. Information will always include names, in some instances will include birth dates of young people, dietary requirements and nationality.
How/where do we store data?
Personal information is stored on our computers and in hard copy paper format. Our office is located within a residential premise which, when unoccupied, is securely locked and burglar alarmed. Telephone conversations are never recorded.
How long do we keep personal information?
All personal data obtained by email is deleted after 12 months, or less. We retain computer files of all holiday booked. Hard copy information is destroyed after 12 months, or less.
